Use of AI in the Audiovisual & VR

Almir Almas, Deisy Fernanda Feitosa

We propose to showcase four creative works that use Virtual Reality and incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their creation. Ancestral Intelligence, a collaboration between Daniel Lima, the collective Frente 3 de Fevereiro, and LabArtMídia, was showcased at the São Paulo Art Biennial, focusing on racial identity and social justice. Black Musical Notes, a collaborative effort of Almir Almas, Deisy Feitosa, and their students, including Guilherme Bretas, within the Audiovisual Interfaces course at the University of São Paulo. Dona Maria: Violated Rights, directed by Deisy Fernanda Feitosa and Eduardo Acquarone tells the story of urban slavery in Brazil, and Beyond Social Invisibility: A Paulista Avenue Journey uses AI to show the forgotten characters of an iconic avenue. These last two projects were developed on the VSAT platform, a 360-degree narrative construction tool created by Eric White and his collaborators from Oxford Brookes University (OBU) and Oxfordshire Libraries. This initiative, under the Collaborative Online International Learning / Virtual Storytelling Application and Toolkit agreement, is led by Dr Almir Almas from the Department of Film, Radio, and Television at ECA-USP, in collaboration with Drs Eric White and Athene Reiss at OBU.
